"What I love about this book is the mystical, surrealism. The Latin Americans are deeply shrouded by magic, superstions, mystical things that can't be explained. Michael Gruber does an exceptionally great job of wrapping all of this together to fit in a tight suspense novel. Now I will have to go back & read the first two books in this trilogy. This book promises to keep you up all night long with all the lights on, wondering if your dreams/nightmares can really come true."

"Michael Gruber's newest novel, Night of the Jaguar, is the latest entry in his Jimmy Paz trilogy, which has stunned and astounded readers since 2OO3 with the amazing Tropic of Night and its sequel, Valley of Bones. Gruber skillfully elicits his protagonist/flawed-hero, mulatto Cuban-American former Miami detective Jimmy Paz, and other characters of strength and hubris, to interweave the supernatural into consensual reality, or the-world-as-we-know-it. I am reminded of some of Clive Barker's works, especially Imajica and WeaveWorld. Gruber has that same quality on inspiring readers' suspension of disbelief and our willing introduction into a world beyond our own: a world unseen, but very real. In this newest entry in the Paz saga, an Amazoniaan indigent Shaman communicates with the spirit of an activist priest murdered by Colombian thugs, to learn of a plan by a Miami-based holding corporation to harvest the area's legally-protected mahogany hardwoods. The Shaman travels to Miami, where he embodies Jaguar (ruler of the Moon) to wreak vengeance on the Corporation's Cuban directors, intending to prevenyt any attempt at their planned massive destruction of the Forest Preserve. Paz is consulted by Miami detectives on the case, as the local expect in "weird," and he at first demurs, but is soon drawn in when his seven-year-old daughter, Amelia, dreams of being targeted by Jaguar for sacrifice to himself."

"Impressive! If you believe, really believe in something, it can be so and Michael Gruber has woven another tale doing just that -- making us believe that something is so. Murder and mysticism are always an intriguing combination."
— Sharleen Martin (Anniston, AL)

"An exciting conclusion to a well thought out, planned and dramatic series. I hope his next series is as great as the Jimmy Paz series was."

"If you're looking for a highly unusual well written smart thriller read Night of the Jaguar by Michael Gruber. This book is high octane on excitement and carefully crafted in plotting. A tight wound combination of mystery, suspense and the supernatural it will leave you breathless. This standout thriller is the third book in the Detective Jimmy Paz trilogy and well worth the wait."
— Alton (Tavares, FL)

"Truly the best mix of a police procedural and 'the unexplained'! Michael Gruber is one of a kind. This is no dry 'just the facts, ma'am' book. Let Michael Gruber take you on a ride of the just and the just wierd as only a true Floridian can. You will not be disappointed!"
— Robin (Pampa, TX)

"Best of the Jimmy Paz books so far. I have loved them all! Gruber is a master at combining mystery and the paranormal. I look forward to reading more from this author."
— Kathi (North Highlands, CA)

"I found Michael Gruber's Last book of his trilogy to be the best yet. Fantastic, exciting reading to the end. Definitely worth reading."

"The lines of reality become blurred in this latest addition to Michael Gruber's series of thrillers with Cuban detective Jimmy Paz. Jimmy Paz is happy with his decision to leave the Miami PD and work in his mother's restaurant, more time to spend with his doctor wife and his precocious 6 year old daughter Amelia. He is not readily willing to be drawn into his ex-partner's newest case when Cuba businessmen are murdered. But when the dreams of he and his family about a jaguar begin to eerily parallel the rumors that a large cat is responsible for the deaths, he becomes immersed in solving the crimes. Moie has hidden in the hold of a ship to Miami from his jungle to confront the people he has been told are trying to destroy his rainforest home. Soon after he lands he meets up with Jennifer and her group of activists, The People. All of a sudden saving the rainforest is more than just a vague cause. And when Paz realizes Moie is tracking his daughter Amelia and worships the jaguar, Moie is more than just an interesting curiosity. This the Third book in Gruber's trilogy with Jimmy Paz. While the story of Moie and the jaguar is intense, it is Paz's struggle to try to reconcile between his doctor wife's firm insistence on reality only and his mother's Santeria beliefs that makes the story take hold. Jimmy's willingness to put aside his previous differences with his mother, even after learning her shocking secret, to protect his daughter from an unseen, unbelievable enemy makes the story take heart. This thriller's strength is its main characters that are convincing, even within the paranormal plot line. While the added plots lines of greed, misuse of the earth and the plight of foster children tangle themselves through out the novel, it is the characterizations that keep the story from unraveling."

"Night of the Jaguar by Michael Gruber is his best novel yet of heart-stopping terror and suspense. A relentless killer is stalking businessmen, and Jimmy Paz is called out of retirement to find an unimaginable threat from South America. Riveting characters and a fast paced plot make this one of the first must reads of 2006!"
